Mount Edgecumbe short walk and nice lunch

There are lots of lovely options around Mount Edgecumbe.  Here we describe the short stroll along the edge of Plymouth Sound (the bay in front of the city) - Nick thinks this looks like Sydney harbour without the opera house - see if you agree!  Wonderful views to Drake's Island and the breakwater.

Drive down past all the Mount Edgecumbe signs until you enter Cremyll and park in this car park on the left - NB it takes coins only!

Follow the path along the water, through the formal gardens and past the Orangery.  After this you can go as far as you like along the coast path.

There is often some activity in Plymouth Sound - here are HMS Echo and the ferry from Spain arriving together.

The Orangery is a good option for lunch - it gets busy so probably better to book.  We had brunch here and it was excellent and very good value.

There are lots of other options at Mount Edgecumbe.  You can walk around the gardens with plenty of wheelchair accessible paths.  If you fancy a longer hike you can go around the coast path as far as Picklecombe Fort and then cut across to the Millbrook estuary and back to Cremyll (10k ish).  Or you could take the passenger ferry across to Plymouth - lots of eateries in Royal William Yard which is very close to the ferry landing place.  Also if you are staying in early Spring Mount Edgecumbe house the National Camelia Collection.
